  1. ULYSSES STATUS 1/4/94: The spacecraft is in a highly inclined solar orbit, now
  2. almost 49 degrees south relative to the sun's equator and about
  3. 543 million kilometers (337 million miles) from Earth, following
  4. a gravity assist flyby at Jupiter in February 1992.  Ulysses will
  5. make solar polar passages (about 80 degrees south and north) in
  6. 1994 and 1995.  Spacecraft condition and performance are
  7. excellent, with Ulysses gathering data on the heliosphere -- the
  8. realm dominated by the solar wind.  The Ulysses spacecraft was
  9. built by the European Space Agency and launched October 6, 1990.
